Working meeting with Governor of Chukotka Autonomous Area Roman Kopin 2013-03-11 13:40:00 Mr Kopin briefed the President on the socioeconomic situation in Chukotka. The Governor said that Chukotka’s gross regional product has increased almost two-fold since 2007. Mining is the regional economy’s mainstay. Gold extraction has gone from 4.5 tons in 2007 to 18–20 tons, and silver extraction has increased from 9 tons to 190 tons. Agriculture and the food production are also developing. Implementing a programme of subsidised air travel for people living in remote regions was a separate subject of discussion.
