As part of the regular exchange of views between the two heads of state that was instituted following the aggression launched by Mikhail Saakashvili’s regime against South Ossetia, Dmitry Medvedev and Nicolas Sarkozy discussed specific issues related to ensuring an effective security regime in the areas adjacent to the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, including strengthening the presence of international military observers. The heads of state agreed to continue their close contacts in the near future and discussed the possibility of a personal meeting.
