Mr Medvedev thanked the journalists for the courage and bravery they showed during their coverage of the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict and said that they covered the events as openly and honestly as possible.
Eleven representatives of the broadcast and print media received battle awards – the Order of Courage and the Medal for Valour.
In total, 176 people were awarded decorations. Apart from the journalists, they included military servicemen who provided military protection for the press groups, television and radio network specialists and communications specialists.
