Mr Putin and Mr Bouteflika focused on economic and military-technical cooperation.

Presidents Putin and Bouteflika discussed the situation in the Middle East, the Mediterranean and North Africa, as well as other international issues. They highlighted the similarity of their opinions on the construction of a multi-polar world. Abdelaziz Bouteflika said Russia was playing an important part in the Middle East peace settlement.

Mr Putin and Mr Bouteflika also focused on joint efforts to combat terrorism and organised crime.

After the talks, Vladimir Putin and Abdelaziz Bouteflika signed a declaration on strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the Algerian People’s Democratic Republic.

Russian and Algerian Foreign Ministers signed an inter-governmental cooperation agreement in the spheres of culture, science, education, sports, tourism and archives in the presence of both Presidents.

After the signing ceremony, Abdelaziz Bouteflika invited Vladimir Putin to visit Algeria and expressed the hope that his visit would help promote bilateral relations.

After the talks, the Presidents of Russia and Algeria replied to journalists’ questions.
