The President’s message reads:
“Your meeting will make a significant contribution to enriching the agenda for Russian-Australian relations with new ideas and concrete initiatives. Our countries have considerable economic potential and a lot of experience of work together in many different sectors. It is important today to encourage mutual investment, launch promising innovative projects and develop opportunities for direct contacts between small and medium businesses.
It is symbolic that your important event coincides with our first top-level bilateral meeting on Australian soil and that it is taking place on the eve of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in Sydney. Expanding cooperation within the APEC framework is crucial in many respects for maintaining our region’s fast pace of development and bolstering the competitiveness of the economies that make it up. I am sure that the proposals and initiatives you draw up will open up new horizons for business partnerships between Russia and Australia and will enable our countries to become even more actively involved in the integration process underway in the Asia Pacific Region.
