In opening the session, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office noted the serious progress achieved this year in the institutional design of the State Ethnic Policy, including the creation of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs (FAEA), the Council for Interethnic Relations and Cooperation with Regional Associations under the Federation Council, and the renewal of activity by the council for ethnic and cultural self-government affairs under the FAEA.
Magomedsalam Magomedov also emphasised the positive trends in strengthening ethnic unity and decreasing interethnic tensions observed in sociological studies in 2015.
Participants in the meeting heard the FAEA’s report on the 2013–2015 outcomes of implementing the Strategy for State Ethnic Policy in the Russian Federation through 2025.
The meeting addressed the results achieved by the Council’s working bodies this year and plans for next year.
Meeting attendees included Council presidium members as well as representatives from the Government Executive Office, Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs, Civic Chamber members, and members of the expert and scientific community.
