The President of Russia noted that stability and predictability are two principles which underpin Russian-Kazakhstani economic cooperation. The Russian head of state also stressed that cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan in the energy sector is directly linked to strengthening regional energy security. He also noted that Russia and Kazakhstan can claim to be leading agricultural powers, which may contribute to the creation of a new more effective system of global food security. Dmitry Medvedev touched on the modernisation of basic industries in the two countries and increasing mutual investments in the high-tech sector.

The presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan agreed to expand the forum on cross-border cooperation to an interregional forum which will include joint projects in the two countries’ regions located far from their borders.

Following the forum eight bilateral documents were signed in the presence of the heads of state. They include two protocols on amending and supplementing the existing intergovernmental agreements on the border points along the Russian-Kazakhstani border and the construction of border crossing points and roads through the border, two memorandums on cooperation and four agreements. The agreements concern the general terms of credit provision between Vnesheconombank and the Development Bank of Kazakhstan; transborder trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation between the region of western Kazakhstan and the Astrakhan region; trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and educational cooperation between western Kazakhstan and the Saratov region; as well as the intention to establish a strategic partnership between Asia-Auto, AvtoVAZ and the Eurasian Development Bank.

Dmitry Medvedev and Nursultan Nazarbyaev then issued a press statement.
