President Dmitry Medvedev met with Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva and Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates.
Mr Medvedev, Mr Silva and Mr Socrates discussed bilateral relations, ways of coping with the global financial crisis and various aspects of Russia’s relations with the European Union.
The sides said they were satisfied with the development of Russian-Portuguese contacts and noted broad prospects for expanded trade and economic ties. The Portuguese side reaffirmed its intention to continue working on bilateral projects, due to be implemented by Moscow and Lisbon.
Portugal is the first country visited by President Medvedev during his international tour that includes Peru, Brazil, Venezuela and Cuba.
