The President thanked His Holiness for the position taken by the Russian Orthodox Church and said that cooperation between Russia and the OIC would create a channel for communication between Russian Muslims and authoritative international Muslim organisations, giving Russia’s Muslim population a chance to feel itself a part of the wider Islamic world.
Russia has been invited as a guest to the tenth OIC summit in Malaysia, but it hopes to eventually obtain observer status with the organisation.
