In a statement made following talks with U.S. President George W. Bush, President Vladimir Putin noted that prior to the resolution's adoption the main responsibility regarding Iraq lay with the United States. Now that the resolution has been adopted, the Iraqi government will receive the full spectrum of sovereign rights and the international community will have greater influence on developments in the country.
Mr Putin expressed the hope that the situation in Iraq would now take a turn for the better.
