Speaking after the conclusion of talks between Russia and Kazakhstan, President Vladimir Putin noted the importance the signing of the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan on the State Border will have for business and humanitarian cooperation, strengthening inter-regional and border and ties and encouraging direct contact between people.

The governments of Russia and Kazakhstan have been instructed to prepare agreements setting out the principles for joint work on developing the Imashevsky gas field in the area where Russia’s Astrakhan Oblast and Kazakhstan’s Atyrau Oblast meet, and to work out the legal, tax and customs regimes that will apply to the deposit’s development.

The two countries’ governments are also to prepare a series of agreements stemming from the agreement signed today regarding the development of mineral deposits and the operation of infrastructure and communications facilities that either cross the border or lie along its length.
