Delegations from 18 countries of the former Soviet Union, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and North Africa took part in the summit.
Issues concerning maintaining regional security and stability were of central concern to the participants.
In the summit’s opening address Vladimir Putin pointed out that the CICA is a unique forum and that four years after its founding the CICA has proved both viable and necessary, and acts as proof of the advantages of dialogue over disagreements.
Following the summit a Final Declaration and an Agreement on Establishing a Secretariat for the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia was signed.
According to the decision made by the CICA’s accredited members, the Secretariat and its structures will be based in Almaty.
