The Saudi King awarded Mr Putin the Order of King Abdul Aziz. Mr Putin said it was a great honour for him to receive this high decoration from the Kingdom. The President praised King Abdullah’s efforts to develop the ties between Russia and Saudi Arabia and also noted his role in giving Russia observer status in the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.

Mr Putin said he hoped to be able to receive the Saudi King in Russia and show him the same kind of hospitality that the Russian delegation was receiving in Saudi Arabia.

The talks between the two leaders looked broadly at bilateral relations and also discussed a number of issues currently high on the international agenda. The members of the Russian delegation taking part in the talks included Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential Aide Sergei Prikhodko, Transport Minister Igor Levitin, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, and Chairman of the Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee Mikhail Margelov.

Following the talks, agreements on trade and economic, humanitarian, and information cooperation were signed in the presence of the two heads of state.
