The formal meeting between President Vladimir Putin and the President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono took place at the Independence Palace.

Following the formal ceremony at the Independence Palace, the high level Russian-Indonesian talks were devoted to building trade and economic ties. In particular, they concentrated on such promising areas as energy, military-technical cooperation, the development of mineral resources, the peaceful development of outer space and tourism.

Among other things, the presidents of Russia and Indonesia spoke of their intentions to step up cooperation in the areas of military technology and defence. The presidents of Russia and Indonesia also agreed to increase cooperation in the fuel and energy sector.

Agreements were signed in the presidents' presence on cooperation in trade and economic sectors and in the area of security, as well as in the areas of environmental protection, culture, sport and tourism.

During their talks the heads of state paid special attention to the fight against terrorism. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of both countries signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Russian Federation and the government of the Republic of Indonesia on Cooperation in the Fight Against Terrorism.

The President of Russia viewed the outcome of negotiations as positive and stressed the importance of the Government of Indonesia's decision to issue visas upon arrival to Russian tourists visiting Indonesia.

The head of the Russian state invited the Indonesian President to visit Russia in 2008.
