They discussed various issues concerning bilateral economic cooperation, particularly energy, as well as current international problems.
After their meeting joint documents were signed in the presence of the two heads of state. Gazprom and the Italian company ENI signed a document that provides for establishing a joint venture to develop the technical and economic foundations of Europe's new South Stream gas pipeline. In addition, a statement of intent concerning the transfer of the compound of the Russian Orthodox Church in Bari, Italy, to Russian ownership was signed in the presence of the heads of state.
Following their talks Vladimir Putin and Romano Prodi made press statements and answered journalists' questions.
