Russia and Venezuela hold similar positions on a number of international problems, in particular on the emphasis that should be given to international law and the central role of the UN in finding solutions to today's most difficult challenges

During Russian-Venezuelan negotiations the parties stressed that relations between their countries are based on mutual trust and have reached a new level to become a key factor in ensuring regional security.

As Dmitry Medvedev emphasised, Russia and Venezuela are major energy powers and energy security depends on concerted action between their two countries. The President of Russia believes that cooperation between their countries will also benefit the other nations who cooperate with Russia and Venezuela and whose numbers are growing.

The meeting between the two heads of state was concluded with the signing of several major agreements in the oil and gas sphere. In an expanded format the parties discussed projects in the mining industry, machine constuction, high-tech industries, as well as the development of rail transport both in Venezuela and in South America in general.
