On April 5, the President will chair a meeting of the State Council and meet with members of the Inspection Commission of the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE)

Announcement, April 5, 2018

On April 5, Vladimir Putin will chair a meeting of the State Council to discuss priority areas of activity of the Russian regions to promote competition in Russia.

Reports will be made by the heads of the working group on the preparations for State Council meeting: Head of the Republic of Udmurtia Alexander Brechalov, Head of the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service Igor Artemyev, Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin and Ulyanovsk Region Governor Sergei Morozov.

The participants will discuss measures needed to achieve the goals set forth in the Presidential Executive Order No. 618 of December 21, 2017 on State Competition Policy Guidelines.

On the same day the President will meet in the Kremlin with members of the BIE Inspection Commission who have arrived in Russia to inspect Yekaterinburg’s readiness to host Expo 2025. The delegation is headed by Chairman of the BIE Executive Committee Jai-chul Choi.

On May 22, 2017 the Russia Government officially submitted to the BIE in Paris its bid for Yekaterinburg to host Expo 2025. The concept theme of Russia’s bid is Changing the World: Innovation and Better Life For Future Generations.

The BIE General Assembly will choose the host at its 164th session in November 2018. Expo 2025 is scheduled to be held from May 2 to November 2, 2025. Right now Osaka (Japan) and Baku (Azerbaijan) are Russia’s rivals.

Russia has taken part in universal expositions since 1861 and if Yekaterinburg wins the bid, Expo 2025 may become the first universal exposition to be held in Russia.
