The message reads in part:
”Sergius of Radonezh was an outstanding historical figure, a man of great spiritual and moral strength, a great devotee and patriot. At a difficult time for our Fatherland, he made an appeal for unity, for gathering forces to defend his native land. His appeal strengthened faith, helped people to overcome a cruel enemy and to revive Russia.
I am convinced that the spiritual feat of Sergius of Radonezh and his whole life will forever remain an example of selfless love for our Fatherland, of unbending will and greatness of spirit.”
