Official visit to China. The SCO summit and military parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII
At the invitation of President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, the President of Russia made a four-day official visit to China.
On August 31 and September 1, Vladimir Putin took part in a meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council and a meeting in the SCO Plus format in Tianjin. The President also held meetings with Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, and Prime Minister of Nepal Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli.
On September 2, Russian-Chinese talks took place in Beijing. Vladimir Putin met with President of China Xi Jinping and President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh and also held bilateral consultations with Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
On September 3, the President of Russia attended a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II on Tiananmen Square in Beijing, and later a gala reception in the Great Hall of the People. There, the President briefly spoke with Soviet military commanders’ relatives who attended the parade: descendants of Marshals Zhukov, Rokossovsky, Vasilevsky, and Chuikov.
This was followed by separate meetings with Chairman of State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un, President of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso, and President of Vietnam Luong Cuong.
In conclusion of his official visit to China, Vladimir Putin answered questions from journalists of the Kremlin pool.
