Sergei Dzevanovsky

June 9, 2010

The 2009 Russian Federation National Award in Literature and Arts is conferred to Sergei Dzevanovsky for his contribution to the development of Russian education and training of talented musicians

Sergei Dzevanovsky, director of the Glinka Choir College in St Petersburg.

Sergei Dzevanovsky was born on December 30, 1947, in Leningrad. He has been the director of the college since 1988.

The St Petersburg Glinka Choir College plays a key role in training musicians and developing Russia’s musical culture. The college teaches 6- and 7-year-old boys from various regions of Russia. By forming a group of like-minded individuals, Sergei Dzevanovsky has been able to turn the college into Russia’s best singing school with a large collection of musical instruments, a very well organised teaching process, and tours and concerts given by students.

The boy choir has gained recognition among listeners and praise from professional musicians. Its repertoire is based on worldwide classical works, Russian spiritual and popular music, and Russian folk songs.

The 2009 Russian Federation National Award in Literature and Arts is conferred for the contribution to the development of Russian education and training of talented musicians.
