Telephone conversation with President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The two leaders discussed a number of current issues related to the bilateral relationship, focusing on further expansion of trade and investment ties as well as the implementation of strategic projects in energy.

There was an exchange of views on the situation surrounding Ukraine, in particular in light of the recent US peace proposals. Vladimir Putin pointed out that these proposals, in the form that they were in when the Russian side reviewed them, were in line with what had been discussed during the Russia–United States summit in Alaska and could in principle serve as a basis for the final peace settlement. The Russian side has reaffirmed its interest in settling the Ukraine crisis via political and diplomatic means.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan Erdogan Recep Tayyip Erdogan Recep TayyipPresident of Türkiye expressed his intention to promote the negotiation process in every possible way and declared his willingness to keep Istanbul available as a platform for negotiations in the future. The two leaders agreed to intensify Russia-Turkiye contacts concerning Ukraine at various levels.

In addition, the President of Turkiye shared his thoughts in his trip to Johannesburg to attend the G20 summit and meet a number of member state leaders.

The two leaders agreed to maintain regular contacts.
