Vladimir Putin laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on the Day of Memory and Grief

The President honoured the memory of the fallen in the Great Patriotic War by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by the Kremlin wall.

Taking part in the wreath-laying ceremony, dedicated to the 71st anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, were Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko Matviyenko Valentina Matviyenko ValentinaChairwoman of the Council of Federation , Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov Ivanov Sergei Ivanov SergeiSpecial Presidential Representative for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport , Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov Serdyukov Anatoly Serdyukov Anatoly , Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin Rogozin Dmitry Rogozin Dmitry , heads of other ministries and government agencies, Great Patriotic War veterans, military commanders, and members of the public.

A ceremony was concluded with a solemn parade by the Moscow garrison troops.

Mr Putin also laid flowers at the memorials before the Kremlin wall honouring the hero-cities and the cities of military glory.
