A Russian-Uzbek summit preceded the talks.

The leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, focusing on contacts in trade and the economy. They discussed prospects for cooperation in aviation, high technologies and culture. They exchanged opinions on problems of strategic stability and regional security.

The Presidents released a joint statement and signed an agreement on cooperation in guarding borders.

In the presence of the heads of state, members of the delegations signed a package of joint documents, including an agreement on an inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation, an agreement on the principles of levying indirect taxes on bilateral trade, and a protocol amending the joint documents stipulating exemptions from the free trade regime.

Following the talks, Mr Putin and Mr Karimov gave a press conference.
