Greetings on Miner's Day

August 25, 2024
00:00
Greetings on Miner's Day.
Greetings on Miner's Day.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Friends,

I sincerely congratulate all coal industry employees on their professional holiday. It is celebrated with great respect for the people of mining jobs in the regions where this sector plays a key role in the economy and life in general – I mean our coal basins from the Far East and the Arctic to Siberia and the South of Russia.

Kuzbass holds a special place among them as over a half of all Russian coal is being produced here, and all its residents celebrate this holiday on a grand scale. They consider it a major event and have long called it the second New Year. On this date, they sum up the results of their work, hold industrial competitions and set professional records.

Of course, we honour today all those who have chosen the profession of tunnellers, mine workers, electric locomotive and hoist operators, surveyors, mine rescuers, shotfirers, mining engineers, representatives of other mining professions, all those who have devoted themselves to the extremely important work that requires endurance, fortitude and readiness to help a comrade at any time.

We also remember the great merits of Donbass pioneer miners and will do everything possible to have coal mining, metallurgy and other sectors revived there.

Friends, today, almost 150,000 miners in our country working in mines, coal pits and washhouses take congratulations. Everyone knows the miners’ strong character and determination, the dignity of a working man who knows that it is his labour that makes it possible to improve the wellbeing of his family, his town and his country.

I want to specially address the families of all those who celebrate Miner’s Day. Your support in indispensable to those who engage in this hard labour, which often involves risk.

Coal has always been and will be needed, and the coal industry itself still has a great development potential. The wellbeing and future of our country largely depends on its growth and success. This is why I believe in your new achievements for the glory of Russia.

I whole-heartedly congratulate you on your holiday and wish you all the best.
