May 14, 2010

The Kremlin, Moscow
Russian-Brazilian talks in expanded format.
Russian-Brazilian talks in expanded format.

President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev: Brazilian colleagues,

Our relations have developed into a genuinely strategic and multifaceted partnership of late. The intensive contacts between our countries are evidence of our desire to develop Russian-Brazilian cooperation in all different areas. We have met on several occasions lately and have discussed a broad range of issues, including at the BRIC summit in Brasilia. Now these contacts continue with this visit by our Brazilian friends today.

Mr President, it is a pleasure to welcome you to Moscow, to the Kremlin. We have already held talks in narrow format, discussing international issues, a number of domestic issues, and bilateral matters too, questions concerning our economic ties.

Over this time, we have considerably strengthened the legal basis of our relations, and today we will continue this work with the signing of important agreements and declarations. Our joint organisations such as the Intergovernmental Commission, the Commission on Political Issues, and the Security Council Joint Group are working well and helping us to find solutions to various problems.

Of course, Mr President and I discussed a number of current international issues today, issues concerning global security, regional issues, global issues, including the situation in the Middle East, the Iranian nuclear programme, and the situation on our continents, the situation in South America, and in and around Russia. These are all matters of mutual interest and on which we need to exchange views. This is all a good start for our discussions.

Mr President, once more, I welcome you and express the hope that today’s talks will be productive and take place in the spirit of friendship that unites our countries. Good afternoon, and welcome to the Kremlin.
