Meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council

Vladimir Putin, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEEC), the highest body of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space formed by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev and President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych also attended the meeting.

The meeting’s agenda included discussion of prospects for further integration cooperation between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, plans to establish the Eurasian Economic Union by January 1, 2015, the Customs Union’s Background information Customs Union between Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan operation and further development of the Common Economic Space Background information Common Economic Space (CES) , and also developing cooperation between the SEEC member countries and Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine.

A number of documents were signed following the meeting, in particular on implementing the main integration priorities, establishing an integrated external and internal trade information system for the Customs Union and Common Economic Space, expanding statistics cooperation, coordinating member countries’ agribusiness policies, and outlining member countries’ main macroeconomic policy guidelines for 2013–2014.

Also signed were documents on holding talks on Russia and Kazakhstan’s basic agreements with the European Union on the points concerning sectors regulated by the common Customs Union and Common Economic Space frameworks, and on deepening the Eurasian Economic Commission’s cooperation with Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan.
